From 25 to 27 April, Almazov Centre hosted the International Research-to-Practice Conference on Innovations in Endocrinology 2024, which was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Professor Yanina Blagosklonnaya.

The event brought together endocrinologists, pediatricians, general practitioners, gynecologists, neurosurgeons, endocrine and bariatric surgeons from Belarus, Uzbekistan, India and Russian regions.

The scientific programme included 34 scientific symposia, where the most topical issues were discussed. These ranged from artificial intelligence in endocrinology and the challenges of endocrine surgery to post-COVID endocrine disorders, new technologies in the diagnosis and treatment of pituitary and thyroid disorders. The conference featured lectures, plenary sessions, scientific symposia, workshops, clinical case discussions, e-posters, expert meetings and training sessions for practitioners.

At the plenary session, Professor Elena Grineva, Director of the Institute of Endocrinology, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, welcomed the conference participants and gave a presentation entitled ‘Artificial intelligence in endocrinology’. The session also featured presentations by Mikhail Galagudza, Director of the Institute of Experimental Medicine (‘Fifty shades of brown…’), and Yuri Khalimov, Head of the Department of Intermediate Level Therapy, First Pavlov State Medical University ('Nephroprotection in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: new solutions – new prognosis').

The symposium, held in memory of Yanina Blagosklonnaya, was attended by specialists from Almazov Centre (Dr. Tatyana Karonova, Dr. Alina Babenko, Dr. Polina Popova) and other leading experts of St. Petersburg (Ostroukhova E., Tsyrlina E., Kovalenko I.), who demonstrated the continuity of scientific research and modern trends in the study of metabolic syndrome.

The conference included a symposium of the Russian Osteoporosis Society with the participation of O. Lesniak, which addressed the risks and benefits of bisphosphonates, vitamin D and calcium, as well as the use of menopausal hormone therapy in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.

The round table meeting on the management of patients with thyroid nodules, modern clinical recommendations and real clinical practice was well received by the audience. Keynote speakers were E. Grineva, I. Sleptzov, V. Vanushko, M. Salov, and U. Tsoi.

The conference also featured a traditional young scientist competition, where researchers from St. Petersburg, Donetsk, Kaliningrad and Rostov-on-Don presented their developments.
